Just bought the newest book from boywonder Jamie Oliver. Although its not his best book (in my opinion it's his 3rd) I must take my hat of for this guy - he's brilliant. His love fore cooking springs from the pages.

My past life as a dog. "There is, on Page 722 in the September Vogue, a red bag that captures the spirit and perversity of America's new devotion to Buddhism. It is a "yoga mat carrier" designed by Marc Jacobs, a white-hot couturier, with supermodel Christy Turlington, for her company Nuala, which makes Buddhism-inspired clothing and is devoted to the creation, through retail, of "symbiosis between the outer and inner being, the individual and collective experience." The bag costs $350 -- serious money for an accessory, but a small price, perhaps, for symbiosis"

The wireless revolution at Dartmouth, where today's campus life is the prototype of tomorrow's network society. Looks very interesting.

Found this one on Microsoft:
Important (and fun!) part of the worldwide online social culture -- allowing emotions to be conveyed in plain text. It has been in widespread use since the early '80s, when it was first proposed. Yet the original message in which the smiley was invented had been lost -- until now. :-) After a significant effort to locate it, on September 10, 2002 the original post made by Scott Fahlman on CMU CS general bboard was retrieved by Jeff Baird from an October 1982 backup tape of the spice vax (cmu-750x). Here is Scott's original post:

I propose that the following character sequence for joke markers:

Read it sideways. Actually, it is probably more economical to mark
things that are NOT jokes, given current trends. For this, use

Is it this easy to rule the world?

One of the telecom companies that is suffering these days are Swedish Ericsson. 3 years ago they were the worlds third largest producer of mobile telephones and a big supplier of infrastructure. Today they have drop to number 5, they are laying of people like never before (a cut from 105,00 to 65,000 is planned) and their stocks have fallen from about 220 Swedish kroner to just 6 s.kr.

One of the things that have gone wrong for Ericsson is their alliance with Sony. The phones they have made together doesn't sell and that really surprises me because they look and function great - even better than Nokia if you ask me. But why doesn't they sell? I have been wondering about it for a while and it occurred to me that I have never seen a good ad from SonyEricsson (maybe a small print in a niche magazine but never on TV) - and that is the opposite strategy to Nokia who advertises all the time. In a field were image in everything SonyEricsson hasn't accomplished to fill their brand with the right values.

Last Friday I was attending a show were this years winners of the Ad Awards in Cannes where shown. For you that doesn't know the festival it can be compared to the Oscar or Film festival in Cannes but just for ads. After 86 min. of none stop commercials it was clear that its pretty easy to make campaigns for softdrinks (Coke, Bud light etc.) and sportswear (Mike, Reebok etc.) but hard for other categories such as financial services (only 1 or 2 shown) or telecom (2) - so next time you see an ad for a "difficult" product stop and think that the guys behind are very good.

One of the things that is very interesting in corporate strategy is alliances. For a large company it is often very easy to create alliances but almost no companies have a tool that can track the performance of their alliances. Maybe the model presented is not the best but it's still worth a thought

This weekend I was on a small island called Bornholm - it was 3 days in slowmotion, sun, golf and great food. The island is every year visited by several German tourists and one thing occurred to me - they drive far better cars than we do (no I'm not stupid - I've seen it before!). Why is that? For one thing they have a great tradition for building cars that we don't have en Denmark. But the main reason is taxation - In Denmark we have a 180 % tax on cars which means that we pay around twice as much for a car in Denmark than they do in Germany. Maybe the European Union should have a look at harmonizing taxation across members? If they do my dream car will come a little bit closer....

When you open a newspaper these days it is very hard not to read about the summit in Johannesburg - but what is it really about - this article might give you a clue

In Denmark the discussion right now is about Jørgen Lomborg and the articles he has published in American newspapers the last week. Lomborg was recently appointed to be director of the Danish Environmental Assessment Institute. After the articles was published the Danish government send this pressrelease (I think the release is very strange - the insitute is initiated by the government!): Various statements and opinion articles by Mr. Bjørn Lomborg, Director of the independent Environmental Assessment Institute in Denmark have in recent days figured in international media, commenting on the World Summit for Sustainable Development. The Institute is established as an independent research institute, with its own Governing Board and Director, along side other research institutes in Denmark. As Director Mr. Lomborg represents the independent Environmental Assessment Institute.Obviously, the independent Institute and its Director cannot and do not represent the Danish Government
